Shimano Unveils the New XT
Shimano just launched the completely redesigned XT group at a press camp in North Lake Tahoe, CA last week. The new group integrates much of the technology seen on the recently redesigned XTR group at a price tag that’s a little easier to swallow. We’ve equipped one of our test rides with the complete group, and yes, so far it’s impressive. Shimano designed the group to have an ideal balance between performance, weight, and affordability. Stay tuned for the long-term test results which will appear in an upcoming issue of Mountain Bike Action. But for now, check out some of the highlights of Shimano’s handiwork.XTR gets a little brother: Much of the technology from the XTR trail master cylinder finds its way onto the new XT. The main difference is in the materials and construction. What didn't get left out is the snappy feel. The ergonomics are phenomenal. The new brakes also feature a servo wave to boost power by 25%, high power hoses, and one way bleeding to ease maintenance.Bike with fins: ICE technology finds its way into the new XT. A cool brake is a happy brake, and the rotor, caliper, and pads are all designed to dissipate heat. Also new for the brakes are 22mm ceramic pistons to keep the system running smooth for the long haul.surce:mountainbike action
