CASEY STONER defied nightmare conditions to win the British MotoGP and leapfrog defending champion Jorge Lorenzo at the top of the world championship standings.

Heavy rain, which left surface water across much of the track, accounted for Honda's Marco Simoncelli skidding out as he applied the brakes on the 10th lap.
After Lorenzo crashed out, Dovizioso finished more than 15 seconds behind Stoner.
